Everything you need to get the most out of BugSense.

Getting started

Create your account

Sign up at bugsense.app. No credit card required — you start with a 7-day free trial on any paid plan.

Add your first website

Go to the Websites page and click "Add Website". Enter any URL (e.g. mysite.com) to start scanning. Running a Shopify store? Install BugSense from the Shopify App Store at apps.shopify.com/bugsense and your store will appear in BugSense automatically.

Shopify merchants: install from the App Store

Open apps.shopify.com/bugsense and click Install. Shopify walks you through the OAuth approval, then BugSense opens inside your Shopify Admin under Apps with your store already linked. See the Shopify setup guide for the full walkthrough.

Run your first scan

Click "Scan now" on any website card. BugSense launches a headless browser, captures screenshots on Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop viewports, then runs the full AI analysis. Most scans finish in 60–90 seconds.

Review the report

Each issue shows the affected viewport, a screenshot, a plain-English description of the problem, and an AI-generated fix (exact CSS or copy change). Issues are ranked High, Medium, or Low by conversion impact.

How scanning works

What gets checked

BugSense checks layout integrity, broken images, overlapping elements, cut-off text, mis-sized tap targets, CLS (layout shift), slow load times, form usability, and more — across all three viewport widths.

AI analysis

Screenshots are analyzed by a vision-capable AI model that reads the page like a real visitor. It identifies issues a human QA tester would catch, not just automated rule failures.

Scanning pages behind login

Add your login URL, email, and password in the website's Settings panel. BugSense will authenticate before scanning protected pages like checkout, account, or dashboard.

Scan limits

Limits depend on your plan (Starter: 60/month, Pro: 300/month, Agency: 1,000/month). Manual scans and auto-tests both count toward your monthly total.

Auto-testing

Enable auto-testing

Open a website's settings and toggle "Auto-test enabled". BugSense will scan the site on a schedule based on your plan — daily on Starter, every 6 hours on Pro, hourly on Agency.

New-issue alerts

When auto-testing finds a new high-severity issue that wasn't present before, you'll be notified via any integrations you've configured (Slack, Teams, email, webhook).

Theme Change Shield

On Pro and Agency plans, BugSense watches for Shopify theme edits and triggers a scan within minutes of a publish. You see any new high-severity issues before customers do.

Reports & sharing

Dashboard overview

The dashboard shows your Website Health Score (0–100), open issue counts by severity, and a chart of issues found over time. A score above 80 is healthy; below 60 means there are likely visible problems costing you conversions.

Shareable reports

Click "Share report" on any scan result to generate a public link. Send it to a developer or client — no login required to view it. Links can be deactivated from the Websites page.

Closing issues

Once you've fixed an issue, mark it resolved. BugSense tracks it in history. If the same problem reappears after a future scan it will be re-opened automatically.

Integrations

Slack & Microsoft Teams

Go to Settings → Integrations. Paste your Slack Incoming Webhook URL or Teams webhook URL. BugSense will post a message whenever a new high-severity issue is detected.

Custom webhook

Set a webhook URL per website in its Settings panel. BugSense sends a POST request with the scan results as JSON whenever a scan completes.

GitHub

Add your repo URL in website Settings. When BugSense detects a high-severity issue, it can open a GitHub Issue automatically with the full description and suggested fix.

Uptime monitoring

Enable "Uptime monitoring" per website. BugSense pings your site every few minutes and alerts you if it becomes unreachable.
